"The love you lost with her skin so fair is free in with the wind in her butterscotch hair. Her green eyes blew goodbyes with her head in her hands and your kiss on the lips of another."
"Don't be like the one who made me so old. Don't be like the one who left behind his name. Cause they're waiting for you, like I waited for mine, and nobody ever came."
-Jeff Buckley, "Dream Brother"
--------------------------------------------------
I love that song. It's appropriate that he named it "Dream Brother" because that song sounds like something in a dream. It's very dreamy. Well, more like a nightmare. "Nobody ever came." So sad. It doesn't take a genius to figure out Jeff was speaking of his father, Tim. "Dream Brother" has been stuck in my head the past two days, so it's really an incredible song.
Today I saw/read the online version of Wished For Song, the photo book about Jeff by his personal photographer Merri Cyr. It has many quotes and stories about Jeff from the people who knew him. It's clear to me that Jeff was an incredible person who had an impact on everyone he had contact with. Quite an amazing guy. Not a God, but a guy. A guy who had fears, hopes, needs, and emotions just like the rest of us. What we all are missing is that wonderful voice he has. Otherwise, he was just a normal human being. Let's put that into perspective in these days of media created idol worshipping. But I still respect his talent, and always will.
One of these days I'll get around to writing a poem about him. I'll have to spend some time on it, though. And it might not be just one poem, either. I'll probably spend the rest of my life writing to Jeff.
Ok, time for a question. I'd love if some of you readers could respond in the comments. My question is: What musicians or groups inspire you like Jeff inspires me? And why do they inspire you so much? (Lady Salana, please limit your comments to ten names, lol)
