Very Good News And Very Bad News
I talked about the record store near my former college's campus, Face The Music, in this post. Well, I was planning to go there today to see what they had in the used CD bins. I still went there but before I did, I read in the newspaper that the store is going out of business!! Most of the used CDs left are selling for only a dollar each, so I raced down there as fast as I could (as fast as one can race while riding a bus, anyhow) so I could get what I wanted out of the remaining stock. They are VERY picked over down there, and about 98% of the discs I looked through I have never heard of or recognize. I did find a few gems though, but nothing on my wish list. The new discs are on sale too, so I picked up "The Essential Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble" for $18. I have been wanting to pick that up eventually, so now was as good a time as any to buy it. Aside from Stevie Ray I bought, all on sale for $1:
- Aerosmith "Nine Lives"
- Melissa Etheridge "Yes I Am"
- Pina Kollars "Quick Look" (She's worked with the Afro Celts)
- Annbjorg Lien "Baba Yaga" (She's a Norwegian fiddle player)
- A Donal Lunny CD as a gift for a friend
I'm very very sad that Face The Music is closing. All their employees are cool and generous, and their used CD selection was usually very excellent. One could count on finding at least a few must-have albums for anywhere from $5 to $10. They had a decent selection of new CDs as well, and they'd special order anything you wanted that you couldn't find there. Also, they were SO convenient to reach! Having a record store so close to campus has been a blessing for me. Alas, there's one less local music shop in town and one less place to find good stuff used. Face The Music, you will always have a place in my music-loving heart.
