Hey, record labels! Guess what? You just lost a potential sale!
I've been getting into Ben Folds lately, especially songs from his latest album Songs For Silverman. I've been thinking of eventually buying it and I'd read some reviews on Amazon.com tonight. I did so, and discovered that Songs For Silverman is a DualDisc album. Dualdiscs will not play on all CD players or computers. If you buy a DualDisc, you're taking a huge gamble on when and where you'll be able to listen to the album, if you can listen to it at all.
So, instead of buying the album (I was thinking of getting it either next month or March) I'm NOT going to buy it. I may spring for the special edition on Amazon as I understand that is a normal CD. Otherwise, there will be no Songs For Silverman for me. That's a big shame, because I really like the songs "Landed" and "Late" as well as the others I've heard from that album.
Why are people being punished for WANTING to purchase music in a CD format, which the record companies encourage? That's like buying a new book, only to discover that you may or may not receive all the pages.
Anyone know if this album will eventually be released as a normal CD? I'd appreciate any tips or advice.

I'm sure you could probably get the special edition version used on Amazon, eBay, or Half.com. Songs For Silverman is an awesome CD. It was one of my favorite albums I bought last year, which I purchased from iTunes.
Record companies are dumb for creating these CD formats that may or may not play properly, have some kind of copy protection, or installs something on your computer. If they lowered the price of CDs, I don't think piracy would be such a big deal.
