I was worried that I wouldn't find anything to post about today, but I worry no more. This was too good for me to pass up, and it comes courtesy of Doomed To Rock:
If you are stuck on a desert island, which 10 discs would you absolutely want to have with you? For you kiddies out there who don't own any disc because you download everything; pretend that you have an iPod with an everlasting battery that holds exactly 10 albums worth of songs. No mix Cd either, unless they are store bought. Double or triple albums count as one.
1) Afro Celt Sound System - Volume 3: Further In Time
This is my favorite album of all time, no question about it, so this would definitely be going with me.
2) Jeff Buckley - Grace
One of the most beautiful and powerful albums I've ever heard. I've got to have some Jeff to brighten up my life.
3) Nickel Creek - Nickel Creek
This album is just so amazing. The songs are gorgeous and the playing is incredible.
4) Jimi Hendrix - Experience Hendrix
I don't own this one, but if I could only take one Hendrix album with me, I'd take his greatest hits. Otherwise, it's too hard to decide. I REALLY wanted to add the Blues album too, but this list is limited to ten.
5) Bob Marley - Legend
For one thing, what sounds better on a desert island than reggae? This album relaxes me so much that I'd definitely be needed it if I was all alone in the middle of nowhere.
6) BeauSoleil - La Danse De La Vie
My friend Beth thinks this is their best album, and I'm starting to agree with her. It has everything - two steps, waltzes, funny songs, and classic Cajun instrumentals. It's their most consistent studio album.
7) BeauSoleil - Looking Back Tomorrow: BeauSoleil Live!
I couldn't bear to leave this one out. It doesn't have the same out of control energy that the above listed album has, but it's still a strong document of what BeauSoleil does best - live music.
8) Green Linnet - 25 Years Of Celtic Music (double disc)
If I'm going to take one Celtic album with me, it may as well be this excellent sampler. It has a little bit of everything.
9) Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
I think this is the Pumpkins' second best album, but it's definitely their most consistent and strongest. I'd start each day with a blasting of "Cherub Rock."
10) Groupa - 15 Years
I don't think I could leave out one of my Scandinavian albums. This one is beautiful, quirky, jazzy, and much more. I don't think I could stand parting with it, so it goes with me to the island.
