Another Monday, another Mambo. Today is Say "Cheese" day, so we're celebrating album covers.

1. What's your favorite album cover from your collection?

I really like "Whirled" by Vasen. The Afro Celt Sound System always have great covers too, especially "Anatomic."

2. What album cover makes you wonder what the designer and/or band was thinking?

Natalie Imbruglia's "Left Of The Middle." She has a "Deer in the headlights" look and her eyes are just strange as can be.

3. Do you own the White Album by The Beatles or the Black Album by Metallica?

I own Metallica but I have not picked up the White Album yet.

Wait, I never heard of the 'white album' or black one for that matter. What is that? It's not the name of their albums, is it?

Actually, Deb, those aren't the names of the albums. Both albums are self-titled, but the Beatles' album has a completely white cover and Metallica's album has an (almost) completely black cover. So they're known to the fans by the color, not the name.

The white album was a double LP with a plain white jacket on both front and back and inside as well. The dust sleeves had all of the liner notes. It was atypical of the over-the-top merchandising that Columbia had done to the Beatles' records in this country...
a pretty good indication of where they intended to take Apple Records, now that they held a controlling interest.
