I listened to the new The Who album Endless Wire today on AOL’s music preview site, and I have good news to report: It sounds like a Who album! Sure, Keith and John are gone (thus making the rhythm section much less powerful), but Pete can still write a good song and Roger can still sing them with passion and power. In fact, it’s remarkable how little Roger Daltrey’s voice has changed since the days of Who’s Next. Pete’s voice hasn’t fared quite as well, but not as bad as you’d imagine.
Some of the songs on this album deserve to become classics (from what I’ve heard so far, at least). Standouts on the album include “Fragments,” “We Got A Hit” and “Tea and Theater.” If you’re a fan of The Who, you should listen to the album on AOL this week or even buy the album in stores (or iTunes if available there). I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
