Wednesday Mind Hump - 10/25/06

It's Book Day at the Wednesday Mind Hump. I'm late, but I'm still posting so all is good.

1. What are some of your favorite books, and why?

Gretzky: An Autobiography by Wayne Gretzky and Rick Reilly. Gretzky is my favorite hockey player, so this was a favorite of mine when I was a child. I wore out my paperback copy and had to track down a hardcover version. Gretzky's stories are very humorous, but I wish he'd update things because it has now been sixteen years since his autobiography was published.

Lord Of The Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. I love this because it's a straightforward fairy tale about good, evil, friendship and courage.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. This is the book that changed my mind forever about Victorian-era novels.

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. Exotic locations, memorable characters, extremely well-written scenes, mysteries and secrets - what's not to love about this book?

2. How many books do you read during a typical month?

One to three books per month. It seems like I finish books either very quickly, or very slowly. My current read is going very slowly.

3. Where do you buy most of your books?

I don't buy them as much as I used to, but I'd say it's an equal division between the local used stores and the chain stores (like Barnes and Noble). I like to support the used stores, but there's something extravagant and fulfilling about buying brand spankin' new books from an upscale bookstore.

4. Recommend a good book to me (and your readers).

One of the best books I've read this year was Best of Enemies by Taylor Smith. It's a fast-paced thriller that *shock* has characters you can care about and relate to!
