It's not everyday that I make a complete impulse purchase, but today I did just that. I had a meeting with my job developer, and while on the bus I was thinking about what CDs I'm going to buy the rest of the year. I don't know why I was thinking about that, but it occurred to me that CD World might still have the "Essential" CDs from Sony on sale. I've wanted to buy The Essential Roy Orbison eventually, and I realized that I should buy it today while it's still on sale. Thankfully the sale was still on, so I am now the proud owner of 2 discs full of Orbison goodness.
The other Orbison collection I have, "The Very Best Of," has mostly re-recorded versions of his hits. Not a problem, because his voice got better with age. However, I wanted to have the original versions. "Essential" has the original versions of most of the songs. A few are live or re-recorded. More importantly, almost half of the songs I've never heard before. Now I have enough Roy Orbison for any occasion or situation.
