What have I done? I've finally completed my big photography project.
Sometime last year, I had the idea to take black and white photos of every single building on the University of Oregon campus. I thought it over again and again, and waited for the right time to start it. This week was the right time, I thought, so I started my project yesterday.
The rules I made, which I broke a few times, allow me to take as many photos as I need to but to keep only two for each building. I considered doing them all in color and converting to black and white, but in the end I shot only in black and white. This project is special on its own, so I don't want two versions of things. I tried to take photos of each building that go beyond the typical tourist or marketing image. I worked with extreme angles, interesting shapes and lines, and hidden corners and parts of each building. I want these photos to make people rethink the way they see the campus.
I did the north part of campus yesterday, and the rest today. I was out taking photos for 3 hours and 20 minutes this afternoon! Now I'm home, my feet are aching, and I've decided on which photos I'm keeping for the project.
Now I just have to upload them to Flickr. I took over one hundred photos, so this will take some time. If you want to watch each day, go to my photostream on Flickr, or wait until I make the announcement that the entire set is available to view online. I'm also going to put these photos into a physical book or album once I get them printed. Exciting times ahead!
