Monday Music Mambo - 6/18/07

It's National Splurge Day and Violin Day on the Mambo:

1. If you were given an unlimited budget for one day, what music-related things would you splurge on? You could buy CDs (or ultra-rare LPs), concert tickets, memorabilia - anything related to music.

First off, I'd buy all the CDs on my to-buy list. The most expensive item on that list is probably the White Album by The Beatles. I'd grab a few box sets too, and some posters. Oh, and we can't forget all those concert DVDs.

Next, I'd buy some vintage guitars played by the masters themselves. I'm sure there must be some old guitars out there played by Hendrix and Van Halen and Vaughan and Buddy Guy, and . . . well, you get the picture. Purchasing autographed items of all sorts would be on the agenda.

Lastly, I'd buy tickets (and pay for associated costs such as flying and hotels) for some of my favorite acts. I'd go see the new Smashing Pumpkins, Aerosmith, Dave Matthews Band, Paul McCartney, Natalie MacMaster, BeauSoleil. Of course, I'd also have to go see the Afro Celt Sound System. Maybe I could pay them to come to my town and put on a concert just for me. One can dream!

2. What is your favorite style of music, or band/artist, that uses the violin/fiddle?

My favorite fiddle-infused music style is Celtic, and my favorite artist who plays such an instrument is Natalie MacMaster, followed very closely by Michael Doucet of BeauSoleil.
