Beta than ever!

Bloglines, my RSS reader of choice, has a new beta for its users to check out. I just logged into it a few minutes ago, and my initial reaction is very positive! What's different, you ask?

  • There is a new "personal start page" where you can put your most-read feeds.
  • Colors and fonts are updated.
  • The feed-post viewing area is radically changed. You have a choice of three layouts - quick view (just the headlines), full view (the full posts) and, best of all, the new three-pane layout. What's that? The list of feeds is on the left, as always. On the right hand side, though, the posts are listed on top and, when you click on one, it appears at the bottom.
  • Another significant change - posts aren't marked as 'read' until you click them! And if you want to mark something as 'unread', just click the little checkmark in the bottom right corner.
  • You now have the option to view only the updated feeds.
  • Things are a little easier to find. The "add blog or feed" link, for example, is now a button above all your feeds.
Of course, as a beta, things will definitely change, but I like their new direction. I'd revise some of the visual elements, but other than that, I like where this is headed.
