Tuesday Tunes - 10/23/07

Today's Tuesday Tunes is all about that trusty old technology - radio!

Is radio even necessary anymore? (elaborate)

I think radio is still necessary because it is the one of the only legal ways to get free music. Without radio, the record companies would want to gain complete control of the music that is out there.

Radio is also useful for people without CD players in their cars (or whose CD player is broken). What else are you going to listen to on the way to work, or at work?

The nature of radio is ever-changing. No longer does it only refer to broadcasts from radio transmissions. We now have satellite radio, which comes in crystal clear and with more variety. Online radio is also popular (and endangered). "Radio" now means any audio music or content that it streamed to you from somewhere else.

The technology of radio is just as necessary as ever in emergencies or traffic tie-ups. It's another reliable way of getting important messages across when other lines of communication don't work.

What song would make you expire from pleasure if you actually heard it on the radio?

I think hearing Jeff Buckley on the radio would be awesome. I think some of his songs could fit the "classic rock" format. (But what SONG, Russ?) "Grace" would be amazing to hear on today's radio.

What is the most enjoyable thing you can think of about the radio?

The most enjoyable part of radio for me is that I don't have to *do* anything to it other than turn it on and tune into my favorite station. I only listen to two of them, so it's usually on the one I want. I also like not having to choose what to listen to. Every new song is a surprise. You never know what you'll hear, although it's probably going to be something you heard yesterday on the same station. But I do like the random format, allowing me to just go with the flow.

I've discovered new pop music from my time listening to the radio.
