A few words about Barack Obama

I don't usually post political thoughts on this blog, but this is the eve of an historic election. I feel I must speak up about the candidate for whom I voted.

What I like best about Barack Obama is his ability to inspire people. America is full of great potential, but what use is potential if no one is inspired to use it? We are facing very tough times right now, and I think we need a president who can encourage our country's citizens to work through our problems.

The President Of The United States of America should be a leader. A leader is much more than a 'decider.' A leader shows the way through words and action. A leader believes in those who follow him, and trusts them to do what is right. When people are trusted and given dignity, they give respect back to those who trust them. America needs a leader we can respect. Of course, a leader also inspires. Inspiration gives strength, and we really need some strength right now. Not violent strength, but mental strength. Strength to fix what is broken by the power of talent, dedication and work.

Another thing I like about Barack Obama is that he truly wants to help make America better. True leaders lead because they care about those they lead, not because they want to control those they lead. The past eight years have been about control - control of behavior, control of ideas, control of other countries. We need a president who wants to help, not control.

Barack Obama has a history of providing leadership to others. He is a dedicated public servant. I hope he'll soon have the opportunity to give the highest of services possible in this nation.
