Top Five On Friday - 3/20/09

Today's Top Five is the greatest:

Top 5 greatest hits albums

1) 1 by The Beatles. Some of the greatest songs in music history are on this album. There are 27 songs here! Go buy it and enjoy.

2) Recurring Dream: The Very Best of Crowded House by Crowded House. Every song here is a winner, even the new songs. Especially the new songs.

3) 15 years by Groupa. This is really meant to be more of a career-spanning compilation, but I think it works just as well as a greatest hits. Groupa is a Swedish folk group, one of the best in the genre. You can hear how the group progressed from their early years to their more ambitious later projects. Oh, and by the way, they're still recording.

4) Wolf Tracks: The Best Of Los Lobos by Los Lobos. I do wish that "Whiskey Trail" had been included as the second track from Kiko instead of "That Train Don't Stop Here Anymore," but everything else here hits the mark. You get to hear their rockers, their Spanish language songs, and their experimental tracks. There is no better way to learn about Los Lobos than hearing this collection.

5) Legend by Bob Marley. There are many more great Marley songs than can be found on this collection, but this is the one everyone knows and loves. For that reason alone, it makes the cut.

I have many other greatest hits collections, but these are some of the best.

Looks like a couple of us concur on that Marley CD. It's my "go to".

I adore the crowded house CD, but then again I love all things Finn :)
