Flickr Fun Saturday - 12/19/09

La Basilique du Sacré Coeur, Paris

Again this week, I'm taking one of my Flickr favorites and talking about it.

This is a scene from a building in Paris, France. The thing I love most about it is the great layering. You have the frame in the foreground from the location where this was photographed, dark and mysterious. Beyond that, you have the tower just off-center, sharp as can be. Beyond the tower, you have all of Paris, stretching out forever as far as the eye can see. This layering really gives the photo a 3-D effect, and yet it's very simple with the three different elements.

I like how sharp everything is here. It must have been a beautiful day in Paris, and the photographer must have used a tripod or some other method of holding the camera still. He or she obviously used a very narrow aperture. What catches my eye here, immediately, is the gorgeous tower. This would have been a spectacular view of Paris without it, but including it as a point of focus really makes the photo work.

Of course, having it in black and white makes the photo all the more beautiful. This is a breathtaking photo in every sense of the word.
