Happy new year, everyone! It's interesting how much emphasis we place on a new year, isn't it? It's a time when we allow ourselves to start over. A time when we look ahead and hope for better times and improvement in ourselves. That's great, but what we really ought to do is apply that same sense of improvement and hope and apply it to each new day. Today is all we really have. We may not be able to save the world, but if we each make today a good day, we're doing our part.
I have a couple things to mention today. First off, I've got a little plan about buying my next CDs. As a recent Jimi Hendrix fan, I've been meaning to get his supposed-greatest album, Electric Ladyland. A friend of mine is going to send it to me, but she hasn't been able to get the package here for a while. We were talking about it last night, and I finally thought to ask her which version of the album she was giving me. Turns out she's not giving me the Experience Hendrix version (my preferred version, because of the beautiful artwork, remastering and excellent liner notes). So I'm now giving myself permission to buy the album before she sends me her version. I've thought that over, and I've decided to get it in February. I just got Band of Gypsys for Christmas, so I think another Hendrix album will be just too much Hendrix. I need to spread these things out. Also, this will create some anticipation before I get around to buying the album.
This week, I'll probably buy Coldplay like I intended to do in the first place. I can wait a month to get Electric Ladyland. It'll be bittersweet, because then I'll have all the studio albums and major releases. From here on out, all I have to buy are the live albums and compilations and such. That's what you get when you're a fan of someone who died.
Finally, the second thing I have to mention is that someone set fire to my old high school over the weekend! It was confined to one hallway, thankfully, but there's still a bit of damage. This really angers me, because that's my school! I spent four great years there, so it hurts to see it damaged. Thankfully, the fire did not spread to the nearby wood shop. Things would be much worse if it had.
I'll be back later with a Random Ten!

i totally agree in that it doesn't make sense to only make resolutions for new 'years'. I make mine on new 'days' and 'months'. There's no need to wait until january to make improvements for oneself!!
