The following post was somehow LOST by Blogger today, so I'm reposting it. Thankfully, I linked it in the Music Memoirs comments and that link still works.
Here's yesterday's post:
I just posted the Feast, and now I'm not wasting any time in posting the Top Five On Friday:
Top 5 "Ecstasy Inspiring" Songs
As usual, I'm going to give my own definition so we know what criteria I'm using to pick my songs. For me "ectasy inspiring" means a song that brings you to that moment in time when it's just you and the music. You're totally wrapped up in the emotions and sensations and sounds and feelings, and you don't want it to end. Obviously, these are going to be songs with some energy.
1) "Whirly 3" by Afro Celt Sound System. There are so many Afro Celt songs I could have chosen, but I'm going to put the spotlight on this one today. It is a remix and thus uses a lot of electronic sounds and beats. The first part of the reel is the same as Whirl-Y-Reel 1, but the second part is brand new and is both energetic and uplifting. This is a song that makes you feel good!
2) "Hot Tamale Baby" by Buckwheat Zydeco. The first time I heard this song, I was up and dancing to it right away. It starts at the speed of 10 and never slows down for anything.
3) "Come On (Let The Good Times Roll)" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Very few of Jimi's songs were fast enough to inspire a sense of complete ecstasy, but I think this song fits the bill. It's a pure rock and roll song, and has enough of Jimi's guitar solo action to keep a smile on your face. "Fire" would be anothe good choice, although it's a bit short. Jimi's "ecstasy moments" really only came in his solos, I think.
4) "One Tree Hill" by U2. This song is just amazing. Bono sings it like he really means it, and you can just imagine him getting totally wrapped up in his vocal performance. Listen to his singing in the last minute of the song and you'll know what I'm talking about. I'm sure this song tears the house down when it's performed live, if it ever is.
5) Any trance, house, club, techno song. Forget the drugs. You don't need the drugs. This music alone is enough to make you feel good. The repetition in the music is the key to feeling the ecstasy. You can't feel ecstasy if there are a lot of tempo changes. They don't call it "trance" music for nothing. I realize it's not for everyone, but I've always enjoyed it.
