Hey, look! I found more links for you all to read!
- Sasha Frere-Jones of the New Yorker explores the loss of black influences in today's rock music. His thesis is that today's indie rock bands have moved away from the blues and soul-influenced sound that permeated the 60s, 70s and even 80s, becoming more indulgent and meandering in the process.
- Here's another article from VH1 about the state of the music industry today. It's surprisingly even-handed and intelligently written.
- This Yahoo! news article, which will eventually expire, by the way, discusses the increasing difficulty for American families to make ends meet. Paychecks aren't covering as much as they used to as the prices of food and transportation increase. This is a very important issue in today's America. The foundations of a functioning society are food, clothing, housing and health. All of these areas are under attack lately, and it worries me. This nation needs to collectively figure out how to get back on track with the basics.
