It's a sad day for local ice cream lovers. Our newspaper reports that the long-running Pearl Street Ice Cream Parlor (formerly Farrell's) has closed. I had a lot of good memories at that place and attended many birthday parties there. It was one of my favorite places to get ice cream in town.
I'm not really surprised it closed, though. I went there a couple times this year, and each time there weren't many people there. Yes, we still have Dairy Queen and Baskin-Robbins, but where else can you eat an old-fashioned multiple-scoop indulgence while surrounded by turn-of-last-century atmosphere? No where, after the Pearl Street place closed. I'll miss it forever.
