I went straight to Coldplay.com when I woke up and signed up to receive instructions to download the song "Violet Hill" from their upcoming new album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends. However, I never got the email! I didn't worry - I went to their Myspace page. The song is streaming there.
What do I think of it? Well, I don't think it's strong enough or catchy enough to be the first single. It is a good album track, though. It doesn't sound like anything the band has done before. That's a good thing. I didn't really get into the melody on my first listen, but it sneaks up on you.
What we have here is an good, solid, interesting Coldplay track. It is a good teaser for the new album. I don't, however, think it will be a popular hit song. I'm worried that perhaps this is the most accessible track on the new album. Whatever it is, it doesn't change my plans - I'm getting that album when it's released in June.
