Another Cool Google Earth Trick

Yesterday I wrote a post about Google Earth. I've been playing around with it some more today and re-discovered something very cool about it - photos.

If you have Google Earth, go to the 'layers' section, open 'Geographic web' and turn on 'Panoramio.' Now, when you fly around places, you should see many blue dots appear, which turn into little photo icons when you zoom in. Each of these dots/icons, when clicked, will bring up a photograph from the location you are viewing. These photos are nearly EVERYWHERE! If viewing a map is not enough, if viewing a satellite photo is not enough, if seeing a 3-D building is not enough, and if seeing a street view is not enough, now you can see many different views of the locations you want to know more about. Sometimes you'll even find photos taken inside buildings.

You can save these photos the same as you can save any other location mark. In certain locations, you may need to zoom in very far to see all the individual photo icons.

Yesterday, I was thinking that the Google Earth software would be much better if it had photos. Well, now I realize that it does. I'm thrilled!
