Top Five (actually, ten) on Friday - 12/15/06

Andrea has twice the holiday cheer to spread today with the Top Five On Friday:

Top 5 musical mishaps (Things that you've done, or artists have done that are a big Whoops!)

1) Elvis Costello calling Ray Charles the N-word.
2) Axl Rose firing every other member of Guns 'n Roses.
3) Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and so many others taking drugs.
4) Paris Hilton, Brooke Hogan, Lindsay Lohan, and so many others thinking they are good artists.
5) The Beatles breaking up. Well, maybe. Who knows if they'd have kept up the quality if they'd stayed together? I think it sucks that we never got the chance to know the answer to that question.

I'd like to add a sixth,

6) Jeff Buckley thinking it was time for a swim.


Top 5 musical discoveries of 2006 (new albums/artists you've discovered etc)

I don't really seek out new artists quite like I used to, but I did discover some great music from the past this year.

1) The Who, and their excellent albums Who's Next and Tommy.
2) Cream (knew about them, but only had heard two of their songs).
3) Desmond Dekker (who unfortunately passed away earlier this year).
4) Los Lobos. I discovered that they're a great live band and have more songs than "La Bamba."
5) Electric Ladyland by the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
