Yes, sometimes I buy an album that I end up not quite liking. It doesn't happen often, and it happened this week.
I started getting into Rush this past year or so. I've heard a lot about them and was curious. I think they're incredible musicians, and I really enjoy "The Spirit of Radio." In addition to the latest Coldplay release, I bought Rush's greatest hits on Tuesday.
Somehow, most of these songs aren't making much of an impression. Maybe it's the song structures. Maybe it's the lyrics. Maybe it's the overall sound. Maybe the songs sound too much alike at times. I don't know what it is, but I'm only enjoying the songs I've already heard, plus a few others.
I can't return it, but I could sell it used. However, I'm going to keep it just so that I can have some Rush in my collection when I get the urge to listen to the band. Also, I may start to enjoy the songs when I least expect it. I'm thinking maybe too much Rush at one time is not necessarily a good thing. I'm going to give it a chance, like I do with every album I buy, and I'm going to keep it for "The Spirit Of Radio," "Closer To The Heart," and "Tom Sawyer."
Rush fans who happen to read this - any advice on appreciating the band's songs more?
