I am dazed, confused, shocked, angry, happy, anxious, worrying, and joyous. Why? Because of this:
Corgan Wants To Reunite Smashing Pumpkins
That's right, Billy Corgan wants to get the Smashing Pumpkins back together. What that means has yet to be determined. I'm not sure if every member would agree to it. I know Jimmy Chamberlin would probably be up for it, because he seems to be the closest to Billy. James Iha might go for it. He and Billy have had their share of disagreements, but I think the possibility of bringing the glory of a rock band to life again would be intriguing to him. D'Arcy, I think, will probably not be joining the group again. She and James have their rocky history, and her original departure from the band was strange and fast. Melissa Auf Der Maur has her own thing going now, so I doubt she'd want to rejoin the band. I could be wrong, though. So, basically, I think they'd need to find a new bass player.
I don't know if Billy just wants to get a new band and call it the Smashing Pumpkins. That's a remote possibility, but it sounds to me like he wants as many of the original members back as possible. Lately he's opened up a bit more and confessed past regrets, hurts, etc. Now that the air has been cleared a bit, Billy may be in a mood to reconcile and go back to doing what he does best: being the leader of the Smashing Pumpkins.
Why, then, did he bother putting out a solo album? In light of this news, I think maybe he wanted to do whatever it was that he needed to do on his own before committing fully to the band scenario again. Make sense?
Whatever happens, if it does happen, I sure hope that Billy and the rest of the band can come up with the same original, groundbreaking music they're best known for. There's really no point in getting the band members back together if they cannot at least partially live up to their reputation.
You can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be keeping a close eye on any developments with this. Of course, I'll let you all know what I hear right on this page whenever I hear it.
