Ok, I am definitely having a little crisis here. On Tuesday I'm going CD shopping again. The reason for shopping on that day is because it's the day Billy Corgan's solo album is coming out. I've been anticipating this release for some time now, but there's a tiny little problem. I've listened to the album online (it's streaming on Billy's myspace profile) and while I do like it and appreciate Billy's genius, I'm not quite sure that I like it enough that I MUST have it. It has a very dark, gothy edge to it and it seems to use a lot of synthesizers and computers with a few electric guitars mixed in. That's not really an issue for me, but what I do have an issue with is that the album has too consistent a sound throughout. What made the Smashing Pumpkins great was their varying sounds over their career and even within each album. Billy's solo album does have a few softer moments at the end, but the rest of it kind of sounds like Billy singing over Nine Inch Nails tracks.

Now that I've heard the whole thing, I realize it's a bit different than I expected. I'm sure I will come to love it once I listen to it over and over, but is it really something I want right away? I'm not so sure anymore, but I do feel as if I have this obligation to get it. That's partly because I've been meaning to get it, and partly because it will never be cheaper than when it's released (except maybe in ten years, but I don't want to wait that long anyway).

To complicate things, I've listened to Coldplay's album X & Y on Winamp, and I am mucho impressed. As much as I like Billy's new dark side, I think I may enjoy Chris Martin's singing and piano playing more. So now I'm wondering whether to get Billy's album, or Coldplay's.

Ehh, screw it. I'll get Billy's now, and Coldplay's next month. Sorry about that folks, I was just thinking out loud for a while. Interestingly enough, I've blogged an actual thought process and decision as it was happening. See ya tomorrow!
