I think I've found something to talk about, finally. I'm going to talk about music videos

Music videos these days are usually pretty safe and boring, and that's if you're able to catch them on TV at all. Once in a while you'll see a good one, but usually not. Well, lately I've seen a few that have captured my attention. A good music video, in my opinion, can make you think a song is much better than it really is. You might like the song, but if it has a good video you'll love it. That's the kind of response I've had to some of the videos I've seen recently.

One such video is for The Bravery's "An Honest Mistake." The song is very 80s-ish. It's very similar to stuff The Killers do, if you're familiar with them. Well, the "Honest Mistake" video is shot in black and white, and consists of shots of the band playing interspersed with shots of a chain reaction of stuff happening. For example, dominos fall and trigger a pulley and the pulley triggers something else - that kind of thing. It's incredibly fun to watch, and the 80s guitar music of the song makes it all the more fun.

The second video is Beck's "Girl." You know those pages in the back of MAD Magazine that show a scene, and you fold up the sides in toward each other and it shows something else? The video consists of Beck driving around what I think is L.A. and the MAD Magazine thing happens, only to real scenes. It's so cool to look at. I think it's very clever and original and makes the song even better.

I don't know what I think of these songs on their own, because now I can't think of them without thinking of the videos as well. That's what a good, original music video can do for a song and artist.

I'm honestly embarrassed to admit that I was watching MTV and VH1 in the first place. I happen to enjoy some of the stuff on those channels, so I'll watch them if I want. I just hope I see more good music videos.

i love watching music videos - if only they showed them more often. and even when they DO show them, most of the time they only play half of the video. MTV really sucks nowadays.

I used to enjoy those two channels way back when they actually played a lot of videos. I soon grew tired of the games and stupid shows on MTV and then our cable company stopped carrying VH1. I have it now but the luster has long been dead for me. I happen to see a couple of videos that I taped once, that were wonderful and had to stop and asked what I saw in them, although I still love the songs. LOL Does this mean I'm getting old? ;-)
