Last night I watched the season premiere of VH1's second season of "Celebrity Fit Club." I loved the first season because of the mix of humor, drama, craziness and seriousness. Behind all the challenges and prizes and screaming matches, the show deals with people who want to get fit and experts who want to help them achieve fitness. It's quite interesting to see that even celebrities have struggles with weight. I don't really think all of them fit my definition of "heavy" but I suppose that's another topic for another time.
I'd probably watch this season of the show no matter what, but two words sum up why I HAVE to watch now: Gary Busey. The Busey-meister did not disappoint on the season premiere. Not only was he named a team captain (which I figured he would be) but he spent nearly the entire episode spouting off random nonsense that made him seem like he's some kind of expert. One thing in particular he likes to do is to take phrases like "fear" and "doubt" and make his own interpretation of what each letter in the word means. I think we may have another Daniel Baldwin, and I don't think he'll even need the drugs to act crazy.
In other Celebrity Fit Club developments, actress Jacquee was named the other team captain. I was really hoping Wendy the Snapple Lady would be chosen and I think she may be elevated to captain after Jacquee proves to be an unfit leader. Wendy is a Celebrity Fit Club veteran, a highly motivated and positive person, and demonstrated her leadership skills well last season. Why the panel decided to make Jacquee the captain instead, I'll never know.
It seems they're having cast stereotypes already. Phil Margera, father of "Viva La Bam" star Bam Margera, seems to be the Ralphie-style character. Or maybe the Joe character. Gary Busey is obviously the Daniel character. There's a plus-size model who's not ashamed of her weight, just like Mia Tyler last year. There's the mouthy black woman in Jacquee (same role as Kim and the judge last season). And of course there's the musician, Jani Lane this year taking over for Biz Markie.
Stereotypes or not, I'm definitely going to watch this show as often as I can. I just wish they had cast Don Vito from "Viva La Bam" instead of or in addition to Phil Margera! Long live Don Vito!
