I went to a show tonight, by myself cause I didn't have anyone to go with, and I give the night mixed reviews. I saw the local group Taarka, who I've seen before at the Willamette Valley Folk Festival.

I've been a big fan of theirs for a few years now, and still am, but I do have a major complaint about the show tonight. It was supposed to start at 8:00, but they didn't start playing until 9:10! Normally this wouldn't bother me as much as it did tonight, but I was scheduled to be picked up by my parents at 10:15. This means I got to hear barely over an hour of music when I was expecting over two hours.

The band started late mostly because of audio equipment problems (which I think should have been taken care of BEFORE the scheduled start time). That alone isn't too bad. Stuff happens. I didn't, however, appreciate seeing the musicians standing around talking to friends in the audience, eating pizza, etc. instead of doing everything possible to start the concert ASAP. As a paying fan who was there to see music, I felt a little ripped off.

My anger mostly melted away after the band began playing. They're an awesome group to see perform live, and tonight was definitely no exception. They played a mix of old and new stuff, and displayed the excellent musicianship that I've come to expect from them.

So, even though I only saw half of what I came for, and in fact spent more time sitting around waiting than listening to the actual performance, I somehow feel that I got my $7 worth. It's funny how music can overcome everything. As frustrated as I was that my evening got cut very short, I still had a good time!

If any of the band members happen to read this, I'd like to tell them that I did enjoy the show, even if I couldn't stay very long. I suggest that, in the future, they try as best they can to get the show started as close to start time as possible because the fans come and pay to see YOU and I think they deserve as much of YOU as was promised to them. No bad feelings, though, because Taarka just f'ing rocks.

You've never heard of them because they're based in the Northwest and aren't a major label act.

Too bad they were late, they should do all they can to start on time and not make the audience wait. I'm glad you had a good time though. :-)
