According to this article, the state of Massachusetts is coming up with a plan to require health insurance for all its residents. Those who already have insurance will get a break on premiums, those who are poor can get free or reduced-price insurance, and those who are able but unwilling to get insurance will face stiff tax penalties until they do get insurance.
Ok, I'm all for getting everyone health insurance, but REQUIRING it seems a little harsh. Do we really want a government (a state government no less) that pushes its citzens to make the decision it wants them to make? I realize that there are benefits to government and the health care industry if everyone has insurance, but I think the benefits from the freedom to make a choice for oneself are more important.
Plus, if we start handing out tax penalties for this, what's going to be penalized next? That's something to think about and watch out for.

In a way it makes some sort of sense. If they could find a good insurance for the poor people in MA. Are there poor people in MA?
I want to see the reasoning for the penalties though. It's not like car insurance which is something that you are 'required' to have as well.
What the law should be is that all employers should have to offer health care to their employees.
i definitely see your point... I'd like to hear their reasoning for why they're making it a requirement.
