Here it is! The Top Five On Friday!
Top 5 song lyrics....(And tell us why you like them)
I'm not much of a lyrics fan, and I really don't have a top five. However, I'll just list five that I enjoy, and I'll try to tell you why I like them.
1) Elvis Costello - I Want You
"The truth can't hurt you, it's just like the dark
It scares you witless,
but in time you see things clear and stark."
It wouldn't be a lyrics list without a little Elvis Costello. I like this one because it's just so damned true. A good lyric should make you think for a second and then say "You know, he's right about that!"
2) Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
"I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die."
I'm sure everyone will have this on their list, but who cares? This line is just eleven words, but it says more than some people can say in a hundred.
3) Keri Noble - Piece Of My Heart
"I can hear us laughing
I remember every part
I've got everything we ever did
It's tattooed on my heart
But there's a colder wind coming in,
and blowing us apart
Until the summer brings us back,
You know you've got a piece of my heart."
Well, this one just reminds me of good friendships. The song is about remembering the good times when someone is away and knowing that someday you'll see them again. The "tattooed on my heart" part of the song really speaks to me, because that's exactly how good memories work.
4) Bob Marley - Redemption Song
"Emancipate your selves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds."
Wise words from a wise man. The only thing you have complete control over is your mind, your thoughts, your opinions. You can control your own destiny if you can learn to think. I like this lyric because it's so hopeful and instructive.
5) The Beatles - Let It Be
"And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
And though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer, let it be."
Again, hope is a theme that I like. Really this entire song can be summed up in the three words of the title - let it be. That's such great advice for anyone. If you want to live peacefully, just let it be. Let it go. Forgive and forget. Beautiful song with beautiful words. It's one of my favorites.

It was so hard not to pick 5 EC songs. Props for the Keri Noble. I need to order her new EP but its so expensive for 5 songs :(
Very good question, I might have to think about this one for awhile.
