I finished the Stevie Ray Vaughan book. I really enjoyed it and thought the writers gave a good overview of Stevie's career and life. I've admired Stevie's guitar playing for a long time now, and even have a concert DVD of him and Double Trouble. But I now admire Stevie for a whole new reason. Yes, Stevie was an alcoholic and drug addict for a while, but he beat it all and got clean. Not only did he get clean, but he STAYED clean too. He helped other people try to get clean, including his own brother Jimmie. Considering that there wasn't a day that went by pre-sobriety when Stevie wasn't getting drunk or high on something, it's quite remarkable that he didn't take a single sip of beer or a single sniff of coke after he got himself clean. I think that, had he lived, Stevie would still be clean today. That's because there are two drugs that had a greater hold on him than any other: guitar playing and performing in front of audiences.
