Mambo time!
Besides the joyous advent of Monday, we're also celebrating History Repeats Itself Day. Thinking along those lines -- let's get ready to Maaaaaambooooo!
01. Name a song(s) that was done by two artists/bands and tell us which version you favor? Example: Proud Mary (Rolling On The River) -- Original by: Credence Clearwater Revial Also Recorded by: Tina Turner I favor Tina's version because of the long intro 'nice and easy versus rough' plus the energy at the end of the song.
"Little Wing" was performed by both Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Jimi's version was shorter and had lyrics. Stevie's version was longer and instrumental. I like Stevie's version better because the raw emotion coming from the guitar is unparalleled. "Little Wing" is an instance when the admirer did better than the admiree.
02 Speaking of repeating *wicked grin* -- name a song that was recently stuck in your head. You know the one ... it's the one that you caught yourself humming the tune or singing the lyrics all day long no matter how hard you tried to forget. Alternate Question: If a favorite song was stuck in your head for a full day, would it turn you off to the song?
A little extra Mambo -- here's your chance to drive us crazy ... plant a song in our heads. Our plant is at the bottom of this post -- please do not link to it as it will be removed at the end of the week. Thanks!
The song that's been in my head a lot lately is Coldplay's latest single "Speed Of Sound." It's so catchy! I cannot stop listening to it. Other songs that have been stuck in my head are The White Stripes' "Blue Orchid" and "My Doorbell."
I can't really think of a song to plant in anyone's head, other than those listed above.
03. Some artists release a song never to have a repeat success. The song and the artist are more commonly known as one hit wonders. What is your favorite one hit wonder?
I'm gonna list three. First is Skee-Lo and his only hit song, and my theme song, "I Wish." He wishes he was a little bit taller, wishes he was a baller, wishes he had a girl who looked good, he would call her.
Second is the white Canadian rapper Snow and HIS only hit "Informer." No one knows what he's saying, but it still gets stuck in your head.
Third is a song that I doubt anyone will remember. It's "Lucas With The Lid Off" by the white rapper Lucas. That was a really trippy song (and video) with all those samples and horns and whatnot. I wonder what ever happened to Lucas?
