TGIF! There was good and bad today. The bad was that it was rather wet and cold outside. The good was that I got free admission to the U of Oregon Art Museum today!
There's more good stuff coming up, starting of course with the Top Five On Friday:
Top 5 Beautiful Voices
And if you're so disposed, tell us why you picked the voices you did and if you want to share a favorite song by each, feel free!
I'm game! Most of these choices are not going to be my "usual" choices. I won't offer downloads, but I will recommend one good song for each person.
1) Jeff Buckley. What kind of fan would I be if he wasn't first on this list? My pick: "Hallelujah", from his debut album Grace. It's a fantastic song, and he didn't even write it!
2) Alison Krauss. She's got one of the smoothest, softest voices out there, country or otherwise. My pick: "Sitting In The Window Of My Room," which I believe was included on a soundtrack or something. It's a gorgeous song.
3) Annie Lennox. I've often overlooked Annie Lennox, but after seeing her and Dave Stewart (aka. The Eurythmics) inducted into the U.K. Music Hall Of Fame, I realize that she really is one of the better voices out there. Maybe not classically beautiful, but beautiful in many other ways. My pick: "Into The West," her contribution to the Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King soundtrack. I dare you to hold back those tears when she gets to the chorus.
4) k.d. lang. She can sing beautifully in so many different ways - country, pop, folk. She doesn't quite have pipes as powerful as other female singers, but she can use her voice to sneak up on you and get in your head. My pick: "Helpless," her cover of the Neil Young song from her album Hymns of the 49th Parallel.
5) John Rzeznik from the Goo Goo Dolls. John has a beautifully gritty voice, with loads more emotion than many other rock singers. He can do ballads and powerful anthems equally well. His voice is what makes the Goo Goo Dolls unique, and when his bassist Robby is singing lead, I wish it was John singing instead. Sorry Robby, but John's got the better voice. My pick: "Name," the song that broke the Goo Goo Dolls into the mainstream.

Ah I remember Name. It's been a long time since I listened to that one.
I guess that's the problem when you have 3000 .mp3's and don't need to listen to radio or go out and get new CD's .. I recognize everybody 5 for 5 and songs 0 for 5 lol... I'll have to pull out the 'Kings' dvd for starters!
No, actually that's not true. 1 for 5! I saw KD do that 'Helpless' song in the spring here in Winnipeg at the Canadian Grammys. I remember thinking.. "Can't go wrong with a Neil Young Too (another local boy)" but my wife said.. "She never lost it" ... I guess she was gone for a while? Anyway! See you next week. I missed a few. I'm Back.
I love your list! Particularly agree with what you said about John Rzeznik and Annie Lennox. ♥
