A DJ for the local classic rock radio station has locked himself in the studio of the station since Monday to convince the station's owners, Cumulus Broadcasting, to keep the station format and bring back local talent. The guy was part of a local morning show that was canceled a few years ago and replaced by a national show, a move that didn't sit too well with radio listeners in the Eugene area. He's got a tent and a supply of food in the station to keep him going.
How cool is that? Thank goodness someone is taking a stand against the death of radio, especially the death of classic rock radio. According to the 5 O'Clock newscast, there have been many phone calls and emails in support of what the DJ is doing, so the station might survive and local talent might come back. I definitely support the guy's actions because I think it's about time that the people who REALLY matter, the listeners and DJs, do something to take control of radio stations from the big-shot corporate offices in god-knows-where who don't care about what listeners in local markets want to hear.
That said, I'm not going to start listening to the radio any more than usual.
