I found this oh-so-cool music survey on a Myspace friend's bulletin, so I'm posting it here with my own answers:
1. Of all the bands/artists in your cd/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?
BeauSoleil. I own nine of their CDs, ten if you include Michael Doucet's solo album.
2. What was the last song you listened to?
"Daphne Descends" by Smashing Pumpkins
3. What's in your record/CD player right now?
I'm listening to Adore by Smashing Pumpkins on my computer. It's a killer album.
4. What song pretty much sums you up?
"I Wish" by Skee-lo is definitely my song. Other than that, I can't think of any.
5. What's your favorite local band?
I don't watch too many local bands, but I love the group Taarka from Portland
6. What was the last show you attended?
I saw Taarka at Cozmic Pizza a few weeks ago. They started late, so I couldn't watch the whole thing, but it was still really good.
7. What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
There have been SO many great shows I've attended that it's very hard to choose. Jonny Lang with Keri Noble was pretty awesome. Both times I saw BeauSoleil were great as well. I don't really ever go to any bad concerts.
8. What's the worst band you've ever seen in concert?
I don't ever see any bad bands, but I'm sure I've seen some acts at the free Willamette Valley Folk Festival that weren't as good as my usual standard.
9. What band do you love musically but hate the members of?
I love the Dixie Chicks, but I think Natalie Maines should think more carefully about what she says in public. She's been fairly quiet recently, though.
I also like Metallica, but I'm not a huge fan of Lars Ulrich even if he is Danish.
10. What is the most musically involved you have ever been?
Well, I have a guitar and I used to try to play it until I realized that I'm just not cut out for it.
11. What shows are you looking forward to?
I'm going to see Nickel Creek for the second time, and Andrew Bird is opening for them. Two great acts, one great night. After that, I'm not quite sure. I don't think any bands I really like have been booked for 2006.
12. What musicians would you like to hang out with for a day?
I think it would be cool hanging out with BeauSoleil. I'd also like to hang out with the Pussycat Dolls, not because they're good musicians but because they're a bunch of beautiful women!
13. What musician would you like to be in love with for a day?
Does that mean it should be a person I'm not already in love with? I suppose I'll choose Ciara. I don't "love" her but I do think she's pretty and a good artist.
14. Pat Benatar or Cyndi Lauper?
Cyndi Lauper!
15. Sabbath or solo Ozzy?
I have to say Sabbath. Tony Iommi's guitar riffs and Ozzy's crazy vocals belong together.
16. Commodores or solo Lionel Ritchie?
Commodores.
17. Punk rock, hip hop or heavy metal?
Punk rock.
18. Doesn't Primus suck?
I haven't heard much of them, but I don't think they suck.
19. Name 5 flawless albums:
This is going to be a hard list to make. Even some of the albums I completely love have a flaw or two. Even so, here's my list:
Nickel Creek - Self Titled
Afro Celt Sound System - Volume 3: Further In Time
Bob Marley - Legend
Neil Finn - Try Whistling This
BeauSoleil - Cajunization
The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Why? Because the flaws in the album are part of the experience and magic.
20. Did you know that filling out this survey makes you a music geek?
I wouldn't have filled it out if I wasn't a music geek.
21. What was the greatest decade for music?
Greatest based on what? Popularity? Sales? Creativity? I personally think the mid-60s to early 70s was a great period for popular music. Artists were encouraged to do whatever came to mind and put it on a record. There really weren't too many limits with the exception of lyrics. The 60s was when rock as we know it today was born.
22. How many music-related videos/dvds do you own?
Nine. I'm fudging a bit to include movies in which music plays a huge part.
24. Do you like Journey?
25. Don't try to pretend you don't!
Ok, I like a few of theirs songs, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to them.
26. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
I don't have too many movie soundtracks. I do love the Wayne's World soundtrack though, even though I don't own it (I do own the movie).
27. What was your last musical phase?
I'm in a Hendrix phase right now, along with a Smashing Pumpkins phase.
28. What's the crappiest CD/record/etc.
Kid Bopz or whatever they're called. Some of those songs just aren't appropriate, and if they are then the kids would do better to listen to the original recordings.
29. Do you prefer vinyl or CDs?
I don't have a turntable, so I own CDs. I used to own cassettes, but don't anymore.
30. All totalled, how much do you spend on music a month?
I buy an average of two to three CDs a month, so right around $30-$35. That depends on how many used and sale CDs I buy, of course.
